#015: Field Day Special

With Kjetil LB4FH out sick and Walt K4OGO out with the XYL, the three remaining hosts still manages to stray thoroughly of topic. And the topic being strayed from is of course the ITU Region 1 Field Day contest; which was held the same weekend as the All Asia contest. Probably to keep them both “interesting”! Bob LB5JJ shows of new toys, such as the Biltema power bank that’s supposed to deliver 15V but actually does 16V, and the new Garmin GPSMAP 67i that actually does InReach. Morten LB0FI shares his thoughts on the N-7500 he’s got on loan from Christech, and its extraordinary habit of sending APRS traffic to any programmed repeaters; CTCSS and all. Tobias DL3MHT discovers, to no-ones great surprise, that entering the German Field Day involves close to 800 metres of red tape and promptly passes on this years event. Bob shares how the LA1T Field Day installation was somewhat disproportional to the number of QSOs actually logged, all while staying masterfully clear of details in his description of the events sanitary facilities (or lack thereof). Meanwhile Morten describes a Field Day of mostly radio related activities, with operations from 160m to 10GHz, and even several contacts via LEO satellites. Other notable tangents include QO-100, FT8/FT4, the CW version of Wordle, German children’s television from the ’80s and Youtube recommendations.
