#016: The road ahead for TEHRS
The full crew is back for another instalment of ham radio related banter and conversational tangents several layers deep. Kjetil LB4FH has had a productive two weeks activating 5 SOTA summits; 4 of which were 1st time activations, reaching as far north as Svalbard. Walt K4OGO has been spending time with the XYL, but also found time to play with the Chameleon Tactical Delta Loop on the beach. Bob LB5JJ drove 2½ hours for a SOTA activation before realising he forgot some vital “equipment”, and so had to drive 2½ ours back to fetch it. Tobias DL3MHT had a productive Youtube week, releasing videos showing the noise from his switched power supply both in the time domain (oscilloscope) and frequency domain (spectrum analyser). Morten LB0FI decoded APRS messages all the way from Poland and went for no less the 5 POTA outings with his “new” TS-400. There’s great admiration for Steve M1SDH that went for a POTA activation in the US and worked only European stations, and Walt also comments on the good conditions into Europe this week. Most of the crew confirms having worked Tor LA6KOA on the island of Rolla some 300km north of the arctic circle. Kjetil mentions Svalbard and the show descend into a substantial tangent consisting of factoids and dad jokes about polar bears. There’s also a discussion on the military installation atop LA/TM-244 Dyvikheia, and much surprise about the lack of ticks and other annoying insects there today. Morten announces the intention of setting up a separate Youtube channel and eventually even a podcast for TEHRS, and shares how he actually observed someone on his train watching the show on a mobile. Taking a sharp 90° turn the show moves into a stack of tangents on organic food, organic water, instant water, dry wet-wipes and vegan chlorine. Morten and Bob suggest the Retevis RA25 and/or RT98 for Walts new Jeep, and Bob throws in his suggestion for the Sirio Performer 5000 antenna for 10/11/12m as well. As for plans next week, Walt and Bob are hoping for better WX, Tobias is winding his new 49:1 and Kjetil will be going to the SOTA Norway gathering and activating LA/OL-195 Bølhøgda.
